My husband always wanted to go to Iceland. We went and now it is both of our favorite place. We flew up North to Akureyri, then drove the Ring Road back to Reykjavik, the summer of 2008. We loved everything. The beautiful North with the Fjords and Whale Watching out of Husavik, Lake Myvatn and the Nature Bath, and sitting next to the rushing waters of Dettifoss, Icelands largest waterfall. The Mountains and Seydisfjordur in the East. Everything in the South, all the little towns and waterfalls every place you look. Hiking Skaftafell National Park up to the glacier. We floated among the icebergs at Jokulsarlon lagoon and then watched as the icebergs went out to sea. One of my favorite places was the Black Beach at Reynisfjara with its Sea Stacks and the little Farm dog to run with on the beach. On the Golden Circle we saw Geysir, which doesnt erupt, and then watched as Strokkur went off every few minuts. We also saw Gullfoss, our second favorite waterfall.
Back in Reykjavik, we stayed at the Guesthouse Sunna next to Hallgrimskirkja, the most awesome church, that you can see from all over Reykjavik. If you are lost, you just look up and head back to the church tower. We walked all over town, sampled their hotdogs (pylsa) at Baejarins Beztu, and the Lobster Soup at Saegreifinn down by the harbour.
We loved everything about Iceland, the people, the blueest sky we have ever seen, the open spaces and jaw dropping scenery.
When people ask us why we wanted to go there and what we thought of it, we just say, "It is jaw dropping, you just have to see it to believe it."
