I just returned from my second trip to Iceland. This time I came back with the ultimate souvenier, Finnur, an Icelandic Sheepdog puppy. His name means "magical" and that is truly what he and Iceland are. I was welcomed to his farm in Hecklu where horses and sheep are bred, along with these very special dogs. I stayed with the family and enjoyed warm Icelandic hospitality, eating muesli and skyr for breakfast, roasted home-grown leg of lamb for dinner and a hearty vegetable soup with cheese and bread for supper. Skyr with sweets was dessert. Finnur is an enthusiastic, intelligent and friendly addition to my household here on the ocean in Nova Scotia, Canada. Magic is my Icelandic inspiration and he's sitting next to me right now exuding the warmth of the Icelandic people who bred this magical Viking dog.
